　　第九回
　　盐店管家杨执中因亏空七百两银子，被东家告到德清县，已收监一年多了。娄家三公子和四公子了解到实情后，仗义疏财，并且还做好事不留名。但是他们救的人根本不值得杨执中简直就是草包假名士一个！而且他们所派去办事的晋爵也是个中饱私囊的货两公子用七百五十两银子让晋爵去为杨先生还债，谁知他只带二十两送与书办，把杨先生释放了，那七百多两银子都是晋爵笑纳。而杨执中却听说是晋爵保了他。娄氏兄弟是个不会识人，滥用善心，所遇不良者甚多！

　　一日娄家两公子在船上与告假归府的鲁编修相遇，于是就引出了一段姻缘：蘧公孙和鲁小姐。十二月八日，娄府张灯结海，四人轿抬蘧公孙，娄府两公子、陈和甫和牛布衣各乘一轿送公孙入赘。酒席间点戏看戏，洋相百出。也预示着他们婚姻的不和谐。只因鲁小姐期望值太高了吧。
　　解疑：
　　梅玖在第七回为什么考了四等第一名，还要被打板子？
　　原因是：明清科举制度规定：秀才在考中举人之前，每两年要参加一次岁考。岁考成绩分六等，前两等的才有资格去参加乡试考举人；三等不理睬；四等打板子；五等六等是不及格，五等降级，六等直接取消秀才资格。因为大家都不容易，所以基本上除非他不来考基本上没有五六等，那么梅玖得的这个四等已经是能得到的最低分了。所以他要收到严厉处罚，当众按住打一顿板子。疼痛是不消说了，当着全县所有其他秀才的面，多么丢人。
