　　第六回乡绅发病闹船家寡妇含冤控大伯
　　严致和的哥哥贡生严致中，更是横行乡里的恶棍。他强圈了邻居王小二的猪，别人来讨，他竟行凶，打断了王小二哥哥的腿。他四处讹诈，没有借给别人银子，却硬要人家偿付利息；他把云片糕说成是贵重药物，恐吓船家，赖掉了几文船钱。严监生死后，他以哥哥身份，逼着弟媳过继他的二儿子为儿子，谋夺兄弟家产，还声称这是礼义名分，我们乡绅人家，这些大礼，却是差错不得的。
　　《儒林外史》是我国文学史上一部杰出的现实主义长篇讽刺小说，作者吴敬梓在文中借一些追求功名、思想迂腐的文人儒士，极力揭露和批判封建科举制度的昏暗及大批读书人灵魂的玷污、人格的堕落。
　　读后感：严监生临死为两根灯草不肯咽气，但作者的夸张并不使人感觉虚假，而是从现实生活中提炼出来的。严监生的哥哥严贡生，小说第六回，写他为了白坐船，死赖船钱，别有心机地导演了一出云片糕莫名变成几百两银子料药的戏，他竭力夸张被船家吃掉的云片糕的高贵的出身，为了省几个船钱，颠倒黑白，并以官欺压百姓，可见其阴险狡诈，可恶之极，这也可以说是当时封建社会的一个缩影。
